The J-CAP Next project aims to modernize and expand the European Probation Project Software (EPPS), a tool for managing probation measures and alternative sanctions across EU Member States. By fully updating national data, improving the user interface, and enhancing security protocols, the project seeks to facilitate cross-border judicial cooperation, promote the mutual recognition of judgments, and support the rehabilitation of individuals sentenced abroad.

Main Objectives:

  • Develop a modern, user-friendly software for justice practitioners to compare and integrate probation measures and alternative sanctions across the EU.
  • Increase awareness and knowledge of the benefits of digital tools in cross-border judicial cooperation, especially for the rehabilitation of foreign offenders.
  • Promote fully digitalized procedures, eliminating paper-based processes in judicial cooperation.

Key Activities:

  • Organizing focus groups, testing sessions, and international workshops to validate and refine the software.
  • Updating national data and implementing advanced features into the software.
  • Hosting conferences and training sessions for justice professionals.

Expected Outcomes:

  • Improved efficiency and trust in the implementation of Directive 2008/947/JHA on the mutual recognition of probation measures.
  • Enhanced understanding of European judicial systems and increased use of alternative sanctions for offender rehabilitation.
